Nevada's First Cannabis Consumption Lounge Opens Its Doors

Nevada is stepping into a new era of cannabis culture with the opening of its first regulated cannabis consumption lounge, Smoke and Mirrors, pioneered by Thrive Cannabis Marketplace. This milestone marks a significant advancement in Nevada’s cannabis industry and paves the way for a new kind of cannabis experience within the state.

A New Chapter for Nevada’s Cannabis Industry

Smoke and Mirrors, located at 2975 S. Sammy Davis Drive, stands as the first consumption lounge in Nevada to pass the rigorous inspections by the Cannabis Control Board, adhering strictly to state regulations. This achievement comes after Thrive received its conditional license in June 2023, followed by a Special Use Permit from the Clark County Zoning Commission. Thrive CEO and Managing Partner, Mitch Britten, expressed pride in leading Nevada's cannabis sector into uncharted territory with the launch of Smoke and Mirrors, aiming to create a unique destination for cannabis enthusiasts.

What to Expect at Smoke and Mirrors

The lounge promises a curated selection of premium cannabis products alongside infused beverages, though, in compliance with Nevada state law, alcohol will not be served. Located in a former strip club west of the Strip, Smoke and Mirrors is designed to offer an engaging atmosphere where guests can enjoy a diverse range of cannabis in a welcoming and innovative environment.

The Road to Opening

The journey to open Nevada’s first cannabis consumption lounge was not without its challenges. The Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board has granted a total of 19 conditional licenses for consumption lounges, but only Smoke and Mirrors has crossed the finish line to operation as of now. The process involved meticulous planning and adherence to regulations, ensuring that the facility meets all state standards for public safety and consumption.

A Growing Trend

The opening of Smoke and Mirrors could signal the beginning of a flourishing consumption lounge scene in Nevada. With 19 lounges holding conditional licenses, the landscape is set for a diverse and vibrant cannabis community. Former CCB Executive Director Tyler Klimas highlighted the excitement and uncertainty of venturing into this new market, emphasizing the collaboration required between local governments, law enforcement, and businesses to ensure the successful integration of social consumption into society.

Looking Ahead

As Nevada welcomes Smoke and Mirrors, anticipation builds for the opening of other lounges, including the much-awaited lounge by Planet 13, which is yet to receive its final state license. The evolving legal framework, including recent changes to increase possession limits and allow adult-use cannabis stores to serve medical cannabis patients, indicates a progressive shift in Nevada’s approach to cannabis regulation.

Conclusion

The opening of Smoke and Mirrors is more than just a new business venture; it's a significant step forward in normalizing and integrating cannabis into daily life and leisure in Nevada. As the state continues to adapt and evolve its cannabis policies, the future looks promising for both consumers and businesses in the cannabis sector.
